Hilary was born in Blackwood, Wales in 1963. She studies Art at Kingston University and Wimbledon School of Art, eventually moving to France in 1987. Here, she completed her studies at the Ecole des beaux Arts de Lyon obtaining a diploma and winning the Linossier Prize.
